Join peers and industry leaders for WICT NY’s first Let’s Talk Tuesday of 2021! Janel Abrahami, industry professional and career coach will lead the event with opening remarks to jump start our breakout session conversations. We’ll discuss and learn strategies that will help you create and maintain authentic connections while using social media to build your professional brand.
Janel Abrahami is a who helps ambitious professionals find the path to their purpose. She has created these opportunities through designing learning and development programs, both in-house at NBCUniversal and Stitch Fix and as a consultant for startups and the Fortune 500. She has built early-career and manager development programs, launched L&D brands, and coached hundreds of young professionals across the globe through her independent practice and workshops with FindSpark, NYU, LSE, Levo, InternQueen, JWI, and many others.
She has a Bachelors in Applied Psychology from NYU and Masters in Organizational Behavior from the London School of Economics.
Senior Manager for Partner Marketing in the Content Distribution
Brooke Schasteen-Smith is Senior Manager of Partner Marketing in Content Distribution at NBCUniversal. In her role, she serves as the account manager for AT&T/DIRECTV, Cox, NCTC, Verizon, YouTube TV, and the Regional Sports Networks. Brooke is responsible for the development and execution of marketing partnerships across the entire NBCUniversal portfolio with her accounts. Brooke also serves on the board of WICT NY as the programming chair and the leadership team of Women’s Network, a NBCUniversal internal employee resource group.
Strategic Partnerships Manager at NBCUniversal
Rachel Leva started her career at NBCUniversal as an intern for the Content Distribution team during her last semester of college at The College of New Jersey. Throughout her career at NBCUniversal, she has worked with many networks like Bravo, Oxygen and Universal Kids and has more recently managed Strategic Partnerships with the entire NBCUniversal portfolio. Rachel has been a part of WICT since joining NBCUniversal in 2015; this year she decided to expand her involvement with joining the event programming team – she is excited to help kick-off the first Let’s Talk Tuesday event for 2021!
Managing Producer of video
Caitlyn Raftery is a hand-on producer that has experience in every stage of video creation. She works for DotDash as a Managing Producer of video for TheSpruceEats and VeryWellHealth. She is a graduate of both the WICT Mentoring Circle and Prime Access programs.
President, Customer Insights Consultant Tis Insights
Lisa has over 20 years of experience using market research to inform the areas of new product development, marketing strategy, and usability of products and websites in cable, IT, broadband, telecommunications, media and financial services companies. She has supported a variety of clients including startups, multinational corporations and nonprofits in both the US and Europe. Lisa has worked with a variety of qualitative and quantitative research techniques, from simple one-on-one interviews to panels to complicated choice modeling studies.
Before moving into consulting, Lisa held positions at Time Warner Cable and HBO, running research for their product development, corporate marketing and website strategy groups.
Before that she ran domestic and international projects for clients at Research International in San Francisco and Stratford Associates, a small boutique consulting firm in Boston.
Vice President, Branded Entertainment, HGTV/FOOD/Travel/ID
Trish Scanlon is responsible for several brands in the Discovery Portfolio under the branded entertainment umbrella. In her role, Scanlon oversees pitching creative concepts and brand collaborations to clients, creative and production teams and leads all branded entertainment creative initiatives.
Prior to joining Discovery, Scanlon served as Vice President, Brand Creative for Travel Channel. In this role, she was responsible for managing the execution of all creative, marketing and branded entertainment. During this time, she rebranded Travel Channel, was president of WICT DC and won the WICT inspire award.
Scanlon has also won numerous Promax Awards for her work across many teams and brands. She is also a graduate of the Betsy Magness Leadership Program for Women in Cable Television.
Scanlon holds a Bachelor of Science in Television, Radio & Film Management from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She lives in Babylon, Long Island with her husband Mike and daughter Teagan.
Mary Susan Schilling
Mary Susan Schilling was the Director of Traffic for Local News & Programming at Spectrum News formerly Time Warner Cable (TWC), based out of New York City. Ms. Schilling was the primary liaison of traffic and sales for 19 24-hour news networks, including traffic operations of eight New York State channels.
Her primary functions, as the Director of Traffic, were to ensure accurate programming/formats, sponsorships, spot content and programming changes within the local news group. She also monitored day-to-day functions for traffic logs on newsroom systems, standardized workflows and sales offerings in each market while maintaining their distinct identities.
Ms. Schilling began her career with TWC in April 1993 as the Traffic Assistant and moved up the ranks from Coordinator to Supervisor, followed by Traffic Manager for the Local News Division. Throughout her career with TWC she was on initial launch teams for many of the news channels.
Prior to her role as Director of Traffic, she managed traffic for NY1 News and NY1 Noticias where she handled all operations and programming logs. Schilling led a team responsible for all order entry, copy allocation, log production, programming formats, verification and billing, and traffic logs in the newsroom systems. Ms. Schilling also worked at WNEW-AM/WYNY-FM in roles that included sales assistant, executive sales assistant and continuity director.
Since 2010, she has been an active member of the Women in Cable Telecommunications’ National and New York (WICT-NY) Chapters. Schilling, the 2019 and 2020 President for WICT-NY, has been on their Board of Directors since 2015 and currently sits on the Executive Board. She is also a member of the Alliance for Women in Media and the Traffic Directors Guild of America.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Television and Radio from Brooklyn College where she graduated cum laude with honors.
