How long have you a member of The WICT Network?
I joined The WICT Network years ago, but I let my membership lapse. I rejoined in 2019.
Who is a great (woman) leader/mentor you have had in your career?
I’ve had many great leaders and mentors throughout my career. I’d like to recognize a few people, starting with my mother. My mom taught me to have a very strong work ethic. This was something she showed, in her own career by showing up on the hardest of days. My mom worked outdoors for a significant portion of her career at the utility company, and sometimes her hardest days were due to extreme weather events, including freezing conditions. I cannot recall a day when she did not show up to work. She encouraged me to always be present and show up.
My very first mentor, and now a close friend, is Andrea Whitney. She hired me as an analyst and initiated the mentoring process shortly after I joined her team. Andrea was always encouraging me to take larger steps, but she also gave me opportunities to grow and perform. One of the most impactful actions that she did, which I will always be grateful for, Andrea always used words of encouragement. She is always dedicated to what she does but also finds time to invest in others.
What The WICT Network programs and events have you participated in?
I have participated in many The WICT Network: New York webinars over the past two years. But last year, I applied for an was accepted into the Coaching Catalyst program, where I received 10 sessions with an Executive Coach. I thought this was such a great opportunity to find define my style, work through areas that I want to develop. The Executive Coaches are all trained in Leadership. The WICT Network: New York gave the participants an opportunity to spend time with all of the coaches, which helped select a coach that I felt comfortable with and aligned to my personality/style.
What is something you are passionate about within your professional life?
I draw inspiration from the following quote by Lou Holtz (Football player, coach and analyst): “Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” I aspire to do my very best in every challenge and am a firm believer in the power of positive thought. I am fortunate to have opportunities to speak to women in the industry and inspire them to believe in themselves.
Tell us a little about yourself: Family, Hobbies, Favorite vacation spot, etc.
I live in the Bronx, N.Y. with my husband, and my sassy Chihuahua, Jack. I am at a stage in life, where my mission is to de-clutter and organize. I am finding it to be therapeutic, in that I am able to completely focus on the task. Once it is done, I have a sense of achievement. I also feel lighter, and mentally better. I enjoy reading, and thanks to Audible, also listening to books. I enjoy traveling, and my favorite vacation spot is a beach. This year, I am looking forward to taking my niece and nephew to London, and Paris. My hope is they will enjoy themselves, but also be encouraged to travel internationally, and truly see the world.
